8 Best Kids Language Apps To Learn Vietnamese

Are you looking for a good kid’s language app for your child to learn Vietnamese? I’ve tested all the different language apps I could find and the top 8 that I’m gonna share below are, in my opinion, best suited for kids aged 2+ to learn Vietnamese.

All of the apps on this list are made specifically for kids. They are fun to use, especially if you are looking for something interactive that will keep your children’s attention. Each of these apps has something different to offer, including Vietnamese flashcards, games, story books, audio books, video lessons, songs, worksheets, letter tracing and vocabulary revisions etc. 

I’ve been trying out these apps with my son Leo for a couple weeks. As I share about each of those Vietnamese learning apps, I will talk about what they have to offer as well as their pros and cons based on my personal opinion after using them.

I will categorize the apps into what they’re best at. At the end of the article, I will tell you the one app I like the most among them all.

1. Best Vietnamese kids app for diversity in learning materials

Dinolingo

Dinolingo is a US based language platform that is very popular among children’s language learning apps. This platform offers children oriented learning resources for 50 languages including Vietnamese. Their courses can be accessed online on the website, or on their mobile app.

Children learn by watching videos, listening to audios and playing games on the app. Vietnamese lesson plans cover a wide range of topics including animals, colors, food, fruits and vegetables, nature, vehicles, family, body parts, clothes, groceries, house items, school subjects, shopping, traveling, places, musical instruments, health daily activities, house chores, sports, hobbies, date and time, the alphabets, verbs, adjectives, comparisons, pronouns, possessions and numbers from 0 to 100.

Each lesson includes videos, games, tests and books & comes with a list of printable worksheets for revisions. When in the app, you can choose one of their two age modes: younger children mode with videos and books only or older children mode with games, tests and books only; or you can choose to include all activities together. It is really a lot of resources that can fit different learning styles of the little ones.

If you have more than one child learning on the app, you can create a different user account for them. On the app, kids can see their achievements and collect dinosaurs for every test they complete. On the account page on Dinolingo website, parents can keep track of the progress, see what lessons are done, how much time has been spent daily and in total and when the last active time was.

Pros:

– fun learning and reward features

– lets parents keep track of progress and control some parts of the learning process

Cons:

– Doesn’t have Vietnamese as one of the app’s language

– Doesn’t let parents control how much time children can use the app a day

2. Best kids language app to learn basic Vietnamese vocabulary

Gus On The Go Vietnamese

Gus On The Go is a popular kids language learning platform that offers learning resources on 30 languages for children aged 2-6. Gus On The Go Vietnamese is one of the 9 Asian language apps they provide. Each language is a separate app on its own and all the apps seem to have similar structures where the monkey named Gus goes travel around the country and introduct different vocabulary topics along the way.

The Vietnamese Gus On The Go app goes through over 15 topics that teach about 90 basic vocabulary words using fun and interactive games. App content includes audio, image flashcards and Vietnamese games. Lessons progress gradually as children unlock new topics by finishing previous topics’ reviews.

On Gus On The Go website, you can find some free Vietnamese learning printables too.

Price: $3.99

Pros:

– simple yet fun for younger children to learn vocabulary

– has quite a few fun games to play

Cons:

– Doesn’t have Vietnamese as one of the app’s language

– Confusing to use sometimes since there’s no instructions available

3. Best kids app for Vietnamese story books and for learning Vietnamese alphabet letters and sounds

VMonkey

Different from Dinolingo and Gus On The Go, VMonkey is a Vietnamese app built by a Vietnamese company called Early Start. VMonkey offers a huge selection of Vietnamese learning materials developed following the official Vietnamese language framework used in public schools in Vietnam.

The app includes hundreds and hundreds of Vietnamese story books, Vietnamese audio books and phonics lessons. The books are categorized by age groups (from 0-2 to over 10 years old) and by topics/genres. The phonics lessons are done in order. Students unlock new lessons as you finish the previous ones. Each lesson includes a series of activities and games so kids can learn Vietnamese sounds the fun way.

You can create different profiles for different children using the app, each profile has its own avatar. Children can access all their read books on the download tab and can save stories to their favorite list to go back to in the future.

Their phonics practice games are fun and creative that makes learning something that could be boring turned into something really fun! Each practice activity focuses on on thing, be it listening to a story, recognizing sounds, distinguishing sounds, letter tracing, word searching or creating words. These exercises, in my opinion, are really good for memorization.

Price: They offer a 6 month subscription, yearly subscription and lifetime subscription.

  • 6 month subscription is 369.000 VND (about US$16)
  • one year subscription is 399.000 VND (about US$17)
  • Lifetime subscription is 1.199.000 VND (about US$52)

Pros:

– offers a huge selection of Vietnamese story books and audiobooks

– very good phonics lessons with fun activities

Cons:

– Doesn’t have English translation for the story books so could be hard for non Vietnamese parents to help kids learn

4. Most fun and most beautiful kids language apps to learn Vietnamese vocabulary

All of the apps that come below belong to the same company Vkids. Vkids is a Vietnamese based company that has developed a series of fun and beaufiful kids language apps for learning English and Vietnamese. Upon contacting their customers service, they told me they are working on adding Vietnamese to some of their apps but for now (September 2022), five of their apps are for Vietnamese.

Viet Kids by Vkids

Viet Kids is a Vietnamese and English learning platform that focuses on fun learning using a lot of games. Viet Kids, as well as other Vkids apps for learning Vietnamese, stands out for their visual designs including colorful background and animations, sound effects and beautiful characters.

The app covers 18 vocabulary topics including colors, animals, shapes, traffic, clothes, kitchen, the alphabet, tools, body parts, fruits, vegetables, household items, gardens, school, sports, numbers, music and occupations. 

Their picture and audio dictionary, tests and games are all divided into the above 18 topics. It makes it easy to understand and navigate around the app. There’s also a huge library of Vietnamese music videos embed inside the app.

What’s more fun and relaxing than learning new words through coloring activity? The Vkids Colors app will help kids learn new animal vocabulary through 50+ animal coloring pages.

For kids that love playing image matching and puzzles, this app will be a favorite! Ghép hình is an interesting way to learn Vietnamese letters and vocabulary. Children play by matching images with their shadows and learning vocabulary along the way. The images and words are categorized by the letters in the Vietnamese alphabet.

5. Best Vietnamese language app for kids to learn numbers

Vkids Numbers is another VKids product. Beautiful visuals, stories, games and activities are the highlights of this app. Students learn numbers by watching a cartoon like number show where numbers are the main characters. 

The app includes a number library, number revisions and math learning for little ones – all in Vietnamese. Kids unlock bigger numbers by finishing learning smaller numbers.

6. Best app to learn Vietnamese alphabet

Another fun Vkids app that helps children learn Vietnamese alphabet uppercase and lowercase letters and covabulary.

Children play by cracking eggs that contain the alphabet letters, then tapping on the letters to learn words.

Pros and Cons Of All Vkids Apps:

– beautiful visual designs

– fun and creative games

Cons:

– Still developing and so the features on all their apps are not consistent

– Has to purchase apps individually

Conclusion

So that’s it – my list of 8 best Vietnamese learning apps for kids. 

If you ask me which one I like the most, it would be VMonkey. The app offers what I think will fit our family the most – a library of story books, and I really like their phonics exercises too. I speak Vietnamese exclusively with my son Leo so Vietnamese comes naturally when he speaks. Story books will help develop his Vietnamese vocabulary further.
